Lingo IQ is a private-by-default knowledge workspace for voice. Most features are built so that what you say stays on your phone.
There is no account, no sign-up, no advertising, no behavioral analytics, no cross-app tracking, and no third-party analytics SDK gathering information about you. Ordinary on-device recording and analysis do not send your recordings, transcripts, notes, summaries, or derived analysis to us. Data leaves the phone only when you deliberately use one of the optional network features described below.
What the app stores, and where
Everything you create in Lingo IQ is stored locally on your device:
- Audio recordings you make
- Transcripts, corrections, and speaker labels
- Summaries, insights, and rewrites
- Projects, documents, images, and files you import
- Your settings and preferences
This data lives in the app’s own storage on your iPhone. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it. If your device is backed up to iCloud or a computer, the backup is governed by Apple’s terms and your own backup settings — not by us, and we have no access to it.
Processing happens on your device
By default, all processing runs on the phone:
| Feature | How it works |
|---|---|
| Transcription | Apple’s on-device speech recognition |
| Summaries and insights | Apple Foundation Models, on device |
| Speaker separation | On-device audio analysis |
| Search | Local, over your own content |
The default on-device choices do not send your recordings or transcripts anywhere.
Optional remote processing
You can deliberately replace either the on-device language model or the final on-device transcription pass with a third-party provider in Settings. Both choices are off by default, nothing is sent unless you configure one, and each requires you to select or supply an endpoint and provide your own API key.
If you turn on a remote language model:
- The transcript text of a recording you summarise or analyse is sent to the endpoint you configured — OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Google Gemini, NVIDIA, Azure OpenAI, or any OpenAI-compatible service you run yourself. Rewrite, Ask Lingo IQ and Smart Organize run only on the device and are never sent.
If you turn on remote final transcription:
- After recording finishes, the app converts the recording to 16 kHz mono WAV and sends that audio file to the speech provider you selected or configured — OpenAI (Whisper), Groq (Whisper), NVIDIA (Parakeet), or a custom endpoint you supply. These are separate from the language-model providers above: Anthropic offers no transcription, and Groq does no language-model work here. The live transcript still runs on the iPhone.
For either remote-provider choice:
- The app sends the material directly to the endpoint you configured; Lingo IQ does not proxy the request. Unless you deliberately configure an endpoint operated by us, we do not receive that transfer.
- What that provider does with the text or audio is governed by their privacy policy and your agreement with them. Please read it before enabling this.
- Your provider API key is stored in the iOS Keychain on your device, is not synced to iCloud, and is sent only to the provider endpoint to authenticate the request.
The app labels these choices and the audio upload clearly. Each processed recording records which transcription and language-model engines produced it, so you can see on any note whether it stayed on the phone.
Permissions the app asks for
- Microphone — to record. Used only while you are actively recording.
- Speech recognition — to turn recordings into text on your device.
- Files/Photos (only if you use them) — to import documents or images you choose. The app reads only what you select.
You can revoke any of these at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security. The app will tell you what stops working rather than failing silently.
Sharing and export
Nothing is shared automatically. You can export a Project as a package or share a transcript, summary, or audio file — each time by explicit action, to a destination you choose. Once you send something to another app or service, it is governed by that service’s policy.
Children
Lingo IQ is not directed at children under 13.
Data requests
We do not have access to content that remains on your device or content sent directly to a remote provider you configured. You control device content: delete an individual recording in the app, erase all content in Settings → Erase All Content, or delete the app.
There is nothing to request from us: the app has no account and we hold no copy of your content, so there is no server-side record to retrieve or delete.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes will be noted in the app’s release notes.
